Here is a Christian Baptism Ceremony Script for ministers who would like inspiration for performing ceremonies themselves.
Welcome and Introduction:
Officiant: “Welcome, dear friends and family. We gather here today to celebrate this joyful moment of [Name]’s baptism. On behalf of [Name] and their family, I want to extend a warm welcome to each and every one of you. Today, we come together to share our joy in the commitment of another soul to Christ and his never ending love.
Opening Prayer:
Officiant: “Let us begin our ceremony with a prayer. Please bow your heads.”
“Our Heavenly Father, we thank you for today – another day in which we can serve you. We ask for your blessing on our gathering today as we baptize our dear [Name] and bring him into your flock. We thank you for the love which you shower upon us each day. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.”
Explanation of Baptism:
Officiant: “Baptism is not only an act of repentance, but comes with the grace of forgiveness . Through the purifying stream of water, [Name] will be welcomed into the community of believers and blessed as a child of God.”
This reading from Romans 6:4 speaks about the power of baptism and I thought it would fit well with today’s celebration.
“Therefore we have been buried with him through baptism into death, in order that just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so also we may live a new way of life.”
Baptismal Rite:
Officiant: “Now we will do the baptism rite. [Name], will you please step forward and kneel.”
Officiant places one hand on the person’s head and with the other either pours or sprinkles water over the top.
“[Name], I baptize you in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. May your sins be forgiven and may you be filled with the power of Christ and his love. Please stand, you are a new person”
Closing Words
Officiant: “As [Name] begins their journey of faith, let us continue to support them with love and prayers. May they grow in grace, wisdom, and the knowledge of God’s love for the rest of their life. Thank you everyone who came today and may God bless you all.”
