An Ocean Themed Wedding Ceremony

For you folks out there who just love the sea and all the romance that ocean life has to offer, we’ve created this watery themed wedding ceremony script to use as inspiration for your big day.

Introduction

The ceremony could be held really anywhere; in your backyard, or in a fancy wedding venue but we would suggest a sandy beach with the ocean as your backdrop. You could decorate the area with seashells, starfish, and coral. It’s your chance to create a beautiful sea garden so have fun with it and get creative. Let the location you end up choosing spark your imagination. Maybe you could use fish sculptures or large cardboard whale cutouts!

Encourage guests to dress in ocean-inspired colors like blues, greens, and silvers. For a fun twist, suggest mermaid-inspired dresses for women and sailor-themed outfits for men.

Ceremony Script

Officiant: “Greetings ye fellow sea creatures! We are gathered today for the wedding of [Groom’s Name] and [Bride’s Name].

You both have finally found your perfect match – your own personal Nemo and Dory. Now you can explore the ocean together!

Vows: The couple will now exchange their vows.

Groom: Even though our love may ebb and flow like the tides of the ocean I promise to remain faithful to you, to be your anchor through the tough storms and the coral where you find refuge from danger. My love for you is stronger than the biggest wave and deeper than the deepest part of the ocean.

Bride: Like the ocean you are wild and fascinating. Like the waves you are mighty and strong but also peaceful and comforting. I promise to be your safe harbour and your adventurous mermaid. I promise to keep and cherish our love forever.

Ring Exchange: Present the rings on a beautiful seashell.

Groom: I give you this ring as a symbol of my love. May you wear it as a reminder of our promise to love each other.

Bride: I give you this ring as a symbol of my love. May you look at it and remember our commitment to love eachother forever.

Officiant: May your love grow stronger with each passing year, like an oyster creating its perfect pearl.

Declaration: Now, by the power vested in me by the great Neptune, King of the Sea, I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss!”

Unity Ceremony: To symbolize the union, the couple can plant a small coral or release a handful of starfish into the ocean.

Extra Ideas:
  • Play underwater-themed music, such as “Under the Sea” from The Little Mermaid.
  • Serve seafood-inspired cuisine and ocean-blue cocktails.
  • Create a signature drink called “The Mermaid’s Kiss” or “Neptune’s Nectar.”
