Simple Atheist Wedding Ceremony Script

Here’s a short and sweet atheist wedding ceremony script that covers all the essential parts of the ceremony while keeping it light and fun.

The ceremony begins with the officiant standing at the front with the groom and groomsmen, as the bride is escorted down the aisle. The guests stand up as the bride enters.

Officiant:

Welcome, everyone. You may be seated. We are gathered here today to celebrate the union of [Partner 1] and [Partner 2]. We all may have different beliefs, but one thing I think we all believe in is the power of love. It is what brought [Partner 1] and [Partner 2] together and it’s also what we’re all here to celebrate today.

To [Partner 1] and [Partner 2]:

Your relationship is based on a deep respect, trust, and understanding of each other. As you stand here today, you promise to continue building this on commitment. If I know anything about these two, it’s also going to be a fun and interesting journey. [Here the officiant can choose to tell funny or meaningful parts of the couple’s story]

Declaration of Intent

Officiant:

[Partner 1] and [Partner 2], do you promise to love, honor, and cherish each other, to stand by each other’s side through the joys and challenges that lie ahead, and to support each other even in the hardest times?

[Partner 1] and [Partner 2]:

We do.

Vows

Officiant:

[Partner 1] and [Partner 2] have written their own vows. [Partner 1], please share your vows.

[Partner 1]:

(Here, [Partner 1] reads their personalized vows.)

Officiant:

Thank you, [Partner 1]. [Partner 2], please share your vows.

[Partner 2]:

(Here, [Partner 2] reads their personalized vows.)

Exchange of Rings

Officiant:

May I have the rings, please?

(Attendant hands the rings to the officiant.)

These rings are a symbol of your unending love and commitment. Just as these rings have no end, may your love be infinite and enduring.

Officiant to [Partner 1]:

[Partner 1], please place the ring on [Partner 2]’s finger and repeat after me: With this ring, I pledge my love and my life to you.

[Partner 1]:

With this ring, I pledge my love and my life to you.

Officiant to [Partner 2]:

[Partner 2], please place the ring on [Partner 1]’s finger and repeat after me: With this ring, I pledge my love and my life to you.

[Partner 2]:

With this ring, I pledge my love and my life to you.

Pronouncement

Officiant:

[Partner 1] and [Partner 2], you have declared your love and commitment to each other in front of your friends and family. By the power vested in me by the internet, I now pronounce you married. You may kiss.

([Partner 1] and [Partner 2] kiss.)

Officiant:

Ladies and gentlemen, it is my honor to present to you [Partner 1] and [Partner 2] as a married couple. Let’s celebrate their love and commitment!
