Wedding Clothing Tips for the Mother-of-the-Bride

A lot of mothers are just as excited as their daughters when it comes to the wedding day. There’s probably a lot of questions going through your mind. One of the most frequently asked, is “what should I wear to my daughter’s wedding?” It’s an event where you want to make sure your choice of outfit is tasteful but not overdone, stylish but not over-the-top. This article should help you as the mother-of-the-bride, make an informed decision when picking out what to wear for your daughter’s big day.  

What color should the mother-of-the-bride wear? 

There isn’t a set-in-stone color that the brother of the bride should wear. If there is some sort of dress code, you should obviously stick with that. Otherwise, you’ve got the whole rainbow to choose from!

Can the mother-of-the-bride wear black?

The most important thing when picking out the color of your dress is that it’s something that you and your daughter can both agree on. Black is generally an acceptable color, although it’s sometimes associated with more serious events such as funerals. 

Can the mother-of-the-bride wear white?

It’s best to stay away from white as not to distract from the bride’s wedding dress. 

Can the mother-of-the-bride wear a patterned dress?

Floral patterns can be great especially if it’s an outdoor wedding. Just make sure that designs are simple and not too intricate. For an indoor wedding we suggest going with a non-patterned color scheme. 

When should the mother-of-the-bride pick out her wedding dress?

Professionals suggest that the mother-of-the-bride picks out a wedding dress approximately six to eight months before the wedding. 

Should the mother-of-the-bride’s dress match the bridesmaids dresses?

It’s typically not necessary for the mother-of-the-bride’s dress to match the bridesmaids’ dresses. However, it should definitely complement the style of the bridesmaids outfits.

Should the bride pick out her mother’s outfit? 

It’s suggested that when it comes down to finalizing the decision, both the mother and bride should be in agreement on the outfit. As long as each member is able to add their input fairly, a solution should be found.
